Course Options:

MHFA Essentials (6 hours)- Focused training on core skills. Participants receive a certificate of completion. $350 per participant

MHFA Certification (12 hours over 2 days)- A comprehensive program leading to a 3-year MHFA certification. $600 per participant

Participants will have the tools to help family members, friends, colleagues, and students with mental health concerns. This training is particularly beneficial for those who work in healthcare, education, HR, social services, or sectors with higher burnout rates and risk for vicarious trauma.

What is Mental Health First Aid?

The MHFA includes 2 course options:

Essentials (1-day course) or Certification (2-day course), providing individuals and organizations with the skills to assist others experiencing declining mental health or a mental health crisis.

Participants attending the certification course will receive a 3-year certification from the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

We offer both in-person and virtual courses. In-person courses are offered in Mississauga and run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

  • Goals of Mental Health First Aid:
    This section outlines the course objectives and clarifies the role and responsibilities of a Mental Health First Aider.

    What is Mental Health:
    Participants explore definitions of mental health, the impact of stigma, and learn to recognize mental health on a continuum.

    Elements of ALGES: Learners are introduced to the ALGES framework: a step-by-step guide for offering support during mental health challenges, focusing on empathy, communication, and appropriate resources.

    Mental Health First Aid for Declining Mental Health:
    Using real-life scenarios, participants practice applying ALGES to support people experiencing early signs of mental health decline.

    Self-Care for Mental Health First Aiders:
    This module emphasizes the importance of caring for your own mental health and building sustainable, personalized self-care routines.

    MHFA for Crisis Situations:
    Participants learn to recognize and respond to mental health crises, including suicide risk and psychosis, using the ALGES approach.

    *Certification includes a Completion Assessment at the end of the course to receive certification. Otherwise, participants receive and Certificate of Attendance

MHFA is a certified training program from the Mental Health Commission of Canada and is also part of The National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace.
